Essayists please include the Title of your Essay, the Date of presentation, and your Name on the first page.
Save the Essay to a PDF file.
Name the file in this format:
Main-Words-in-title_YourFirstName-YourLastName.pdf (Use hypens as word separators and an underscore to separate title from author).
Email your PDF to essays@literaryclub.org Include a one sentence description of the content of your essay in the email. See the searchable Essays page for examples of a description. The shorter, the better.
Some essays submitted in past years do not have the name of the author in the file and the filenames are not descriptive of the content. For our own linking and archival purposes, it is much better to have file names that relate to the title of the essay. This would also help the archivist at the Historical Society.
Names such as "ilcchangnatfinaltoilcjan-7-shortref(2).pdf" require research before a proper link may be made.
Here are examples of file names in the proper format:
all-the-sallies-of-his-will_jay-harvey.pdf
discovering-the-nature-of-things_stephen-j-jay.pdf
indianas-edge-on-mississippi_morton-marcus.pdf
Note: Do not use apostrophes or special characters other than "-" and "_" in the files names.
In modern practice, essayists pick titles that only hint at actual content. Thus, titles do not help visitors to our website. A short one sentence description of actual content of the essay will go on the searchable list of essays on this website next to the title to help the viewer decide to read the essay.
